The reimagined park in Trenčín will serve as a backdrop to the European City of Culture events in 2026. Currently, Štefánik Park is defined by movement between its opposite poles – the city center and its railway station. Over this linear commute, the project inserts a sauntering sequence of stops offering a slowdown focusing on new or re-emphasized park amenities. It contrasts the abstracted axis of movement and the natural character of the park.
It will guide you to the pine grove, or to a meeting place under the tree canopy at the entrance. You can stop by the market stalls, or just sit and observe the transformation of the park. You can walk along its rugged paths, or enter the interactive zone to influence the humidity, lighting and sounds of the environment yourself. Have coffee on the terrace in front of the historic train station building, or visit a concert in the renovated amphitheater.
These programs are connected by a straight path whose surfaces create a gradient from smooth paving to planted edges disappearing in the landscape composed of meadows, residential lawns, flower beds and permeable piazzas, programmatically synced with the adjacent buildings.
